Bulgaria round-up: Record-breaking Lokomotiv rampant

PFC Lokomotiv Plovdiv defeated PFC Dobrudzha Dobrich 9-1 to record their best ever league win.

PFC Lokomotiv Plovdiv ensured Georgi Haralampiev’s reign as PFC Dobrudzha Dobrich coach got off to the worst imaginable start at the weekend, drubbing the last-placed side 9-1 to record their best ever league win.

Dobrudzha disaster
Trayan Dyankov opened the scoring on six minutes and grabbed another ten minutes before the break, Metodi Stoinev striking in-between. Atanas Georgiev pulled one back for the visitors shortly after the interval but it was their only success as a Doncho Donev penalty, Slavcho Pavlov, Jarko Serafimovski, Martin Kamburov and Ekundayo Jayeoba piled on the agony in the second-half.

Plovdiv delight
PFC Botev made it a good day for Plovdiv with a 3-1 defeat of PFC Rilski Sportist, despite conceding shortly after the break when Vasil Kirov gave the home side the lead. Three goals in a four-minute spell, however, shattered the hosts as Milen Kunchev and Ivan Karamanov were on target, and Georgi Borinarov blundered an own goal.

Nafteks third
PFC Naftex Burgas, meanwhile, climbed to third thanks to a 3-2 defeat of fifth-placed PFC Slavia Sofia, despite going behind behind on 36 minutes when Martin Kushev headed in unmarked at the far post. The hosts were back on level terms just one minute later when Stoicho Sakaliev nodded an equalizer and went ahead through a fortunate Radomir Todorov strike. Four minutes later, Kushev's second goal brought Slavia level, but their joy was short-lived, Todorov crossing from the left for Plamen Timnev to slam a 59th-minute winner.

Georgiev double
A Milen Georgiev double, meanwhile, was enough for PFC Spartak Varna to see off the challenge of PFC Marek Dupnitsa in a 3-1 win, Anzhelo Kyuchukov's 61st minute effort proving scant consolation. Elsewhere, PFC Lokomotiv Sofia and PFC Cherno fought out a scoreless draw and a 3-0 win for PFC Liteks Lovech deprived PFC Levski Sofia the chance to go top.
