Cipro pays for poor start

FK Teplice have sacked coach Frantisek Cipro after a woeful start to the season.

The Czech first division side FK Teplice have sacked coach Frantisek Cipro after only five 1. liga matches of the season.

Second from bottom
The ambitious club, who have one of the most modern stadiums in the Czech Republic, are one off the bottom of the table with just three points from five games and Monday's defeat at FC Slovan Liberec signalled the end for Cipro.

Worst defensive record
The season started well for Teplice when they beat FC Kaiserslautern 4-0 in the UEFA Intertoto Cup but a run of defeats and the worst defensive record in the league – 12 goals conceded - have forced the club's board to reassess the situation just as they did a year ago when Cipro replaced Dusan Uhrin after a poor start.

Third casualty
Cipro has been replaced by his assistant, the former international Frantisek Straka who played for VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Hansa Rostock. Cipro is the third coach to lose his job in the first division this season after Jirí Kotrba at FC Príbram and Vladimír Borovicka at Bohemians Praha were released before him.
