New coach Jerzy Wyrobek is relishing a "great challenge" at Polish side Pogon Szczecin.
Article body
Albin Mikulski has been replaced as coach of Pogon Szczecin by Jerzy Wyrobek after tallying just one point from five Polish Ekstraklasa matches this season.
Morale low
With morale low and the club already facing the prospect of relegation, Pogon moved to appoint a new man. The 53-year-old Wyrobek, an esteemed former Polish international, coached KS Ruch Chorzów, the club he played for nearly 300 times, to the Polish championship in 1989 and the Polish Cup in 1996. In addition to winning titles, he has proved in the past that he can save a club from relegation, his time at Odra Wodzislaw being a case in point.
'Great challenge'
Wyrobek, who will be assisted by the vastly experienced Leszek Jezierski, was most recently in charge of Zaglebie Lubin. He said of today's appointment: "I expect the experience earned at Ruch and Odra to prove helpful to me. Take a look at the table - two goals scored, 12 conceded - it's a great challenge. There are many good players at the club which gives us hope."
