Cork City FC booked their place in the semi-finals of the FAI Cup tonight, after a convincing 2-0 victory over lower-division side Finn Harps FC in Cork that maintains their 100 per cent home record at their Turners Cross ground.
Driving rain
The two sides played out an entertaining draw last Saturday, but in contrast this was a disappointing game on an evening when the quality of football was hindered by driving rain. It was actually the visitors that came closest in the first half, with player-manager Johnathan Speake firing a twenty-metre free-kick off the crossbar in the opening minute.
Cork dominate
However, Cork dominated the rest of the match and it was no surprise when they took the lead twenty minutes from time. In-form striker John O'Flynn forced the ball home from inside the penalty box to put the home side in control. Eight minutes later, midfield player Colin O'Brien added a second after a well worked move to ensure progression for Liam Murphy's side.
