England round-up: Bolton's repeat performance

Members

Bolton Wanderers FC shocked Manchester United FC by winning at Old Trafford.

Bolton Wanderers FC proved that lightning can strike twice when for the second successive season they won at Manchester United FC.

Nolan winner
Kevin Nolan, a scorer in their 2-1 win at Old Trafford last season, scored the only goal 14 minutes from time as Bolton claimed their first win of the season. It was not the night's only surprise as two Clinton Morrison goals helped Birmingham City FC rescue a point at Liverpool FC. It was the second match in succession Liverpool had surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at home.

Fulham fightback
Like Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur FC had entered the night seeking to leapfrog leaders Arsenal FC yet they also squandered a two-goal advantage in a 3-2 defeat at Fulham FC. Sylvain Legwinski's last-minute winner completed a superb second-half comeback by Fulham for whom Junichi Inamoto and Steed Malbranque were also on target, the latter from the penalty spot.

Away wins
Mark Viduka and Alan Smith both scored in Leeds United AFC's 2-0 win at Newcastle United FC, while Gianfranco Zola struck twice as Chelsea FC won 3-2 at Blackburn Rovers FC.

De la Cruz off the mark
There was a first goal in English football for Ecuador's Ulises de la Cruz in Aston Villa FC's 2-0 victory over Charlton Athletic FC, while Marian Pahars' penalty earned Southampton FC their first win of the season at home to Everton FC. West Ham United FC remain bottom with one point from four games after a 1-0 home defeat by West Bromwich Albion FC.
