Ferocious flurry
Dynamo scored six goals in the final 25 minutes of the game, as Leandro, Diogo Rincón and Maksim Shatskikh recorded a double each with Florin Cernat and Olexandr Melaschenko also on the scoresheet. Jerko Leko, who joined from NK Dinamo Zagreb in a record deal a few weeks ago, made his debut for Dynamo.
Hot streak
Dnipro overcame FC Karpaty Lviv 2-0 to cement their position at the top of the Premier League table. Oleh Venglinskyi scored twice for the leaders, as he increased his scoring tally to seven goals in six games.
Shakhtar struggle
Defending champions FC Shakhtar Donetsk were given a bumpy ride by newcomers FC Obolon Kyiv, but still claimed three points in a 2-1 affair. Hennadiy Zubov and Andriy Vorobey scored one apiece, while Igor Prodan pulled one back for Obolon, who were looking to get back into the game late in the second half, but failed to unlock the Shakhtar defence.
European winners
Another two Ukrainian clubs in the UEFA Cup also won. FC FC Metalurh Donetsk beat FC Tavriya Simferopol 2-0, with the goals coming courtesy of Gocha Jamarauli and Bernard Tchoutang. The other euopean representatives, FC Metalurh Zaporizhya, beat FC Polihraftekhnica Olexandria 2-1, as Serhiy Kliuchyk and Irakliy Modebadze recorded goals.
Arsenal eye second spot
FC Volyn Lutsk beat FC Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih 2-0, FC Metalist Kharkiv overcame FC Chornomorets Odesa through a single goal by Dmytro Bermudes, with FC Arsenal Kyiv due to play FC Metalurh Mariupil on Friday. A victory will catapult the Kiev outfit into second place, a single point behind the leaders.
