FC Dynamo Kyiv paid the price for their exertions in the UEFA Champions League, where they defeated Newcastle United FC 2-0 on Wednesday, in a 1-1 draw with FC Obolon Kyiv.
Tsytkin steals show
Goalkeeper Volodymyr Tsytkin was the hero for the hosts, denying Dynamo on various occasions after Ihor Prodan gave Obolon a shock lead on eight minutes. Croatian midfield player Jerko Leko struck the equaliser to make sure the visitors at least went home with a point.
Dnipro in command
FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, meanwhile, lie six points ahead of Dynamo and stayed top with a comfortable 2-0 away win over FC Metalist Kharkiv. Second-placed FC Arsenal Kyiv stayed in touch with the leaders with a 3-1 victory in their trip to FC Chernomorets Odesa.
Byelik strike
Caretaker coach Valeri Yaremchenko led FC Shakhtar Donetsk, in third, to a 1-0 defeat of FC Polihraftechnica Olexandriya, the only goal courtesy of Olexiy Byelik.
Sachko decisive
Elsewhere, Vasyl Sachko handed FC Volyn Lutsk a 1-0 victory over FC Vorskla Poltava, FC Metalurh Mariupol despatched FC Tavriya Simferopol 2-0, while FC Karpaty and FC Kryvbas Kryviy Rih ground out a scoreless draw.
