Olympique de Marseille secured their 800th top-flight victory by beating AC Ajaccio 3-1.

Olympique de Marseille tonight joined OGC Nice and AJ Auxerre at the top of Ligue 1 after securing their 800th top-flight victory by beating AC Ajaccio 3-1.

Early setback
The former European champions were forced to do it the hard way though, after falling behind to a 14th-minute headed goal from Christophe Destruhaut. Belgian defender Daniel Van Buyten equalised in the 41st minute before Cyril Chapuis made it two just seconds before half-time. Ibrahima Bakayoko from the Ivory Coast sealed Marseille's victory with a 75th-minute penalty.

Lebeouf injured
Marseille captain Frank Leboeuf, who has suffered badly with injuries in recent months, was again forced to leave the pitch early in the first half and was replaced by Argentinian Eduardo Tuzzio. The former Chelsea FC defender is expected to be sidelined for a month.

St Etienne still top
With 800 first-division wins, Marseille are the second most successful French team after AS St Etienne, who have won 812 games. Nice and Auxerre, who share top spot with Marseille on 17 points, travel to FC Sochaux-Montbéliard and FC Nantes Atlantique respectively tomorrow.
