Members

FC Neman Grodno had a dream Saturday, beating the champions as their main title rivals lost.

Belarussian first division leaders FC Neman Grodno had a dream weekend, as they gained a superb 5-1 victory against defending champions FC Belshina Bobruisk, while their main competitors FC BATE Borisov unexpectedly lost to FC Torpedo-MAZ Minsk 2-0.

Pressure tells
Neman went ahead after a quarter of an hour, as Andrey Turchinovich did well to give them a lead. Belshina then soaked up the attacking pressure of their hosts, but they could not hold out until the final whistle. Igor Kovalevich converted a penalty on 70 minutes, and then Dmitry Dolya, Turchinovich and Dmitry Kovalyenok scored within a seven-minute spell. Valery Stripeikis claimed a consolation goal, becoming the first ever player to score 100 goals in the Belarussian first division.

Solid Torpedo-Maz impress
Meanwhile, excellent defending and intelligent counterattacks aided Torpedo-MAZ to their win against BATE. Pavel Kirilchik's header put Torpedo-MAZ in the lead on 34 minutes, and Vladislav Bezborodov scored the second goal from a break just after the hour.

Bespansky ensures draw
In the remaining game, FC Dnepr-Transmash Mogilev drew 1-1 with Shakhtior Soligorsk. Roman Kirenkin put the hosts in the lead, but Dmitry Bespansky equalised for Shakhtior.
