Malmö FF have gained the upper hand in the fight for the Swedish championship.

Malmö FF have gained the upper hand in the fight for the Swedish championship after beating IFK Göteborg 4-2 on Sunday to go a point clear at the top of the table.

Ijeh on target again
Göteborg took the lead through Kabba Samura's first goal of the season, but found themselves 3-1 down just 20 minutes later courtesy of two goals from Peter Ijeh, who has now scored 20 in 17 games this season, and a bicycle kick from Danijel Majsterovic. The second half saw Niklas Skoog take advantage of a poor clearance from Göteborg goalkeeper Bengt Andersson to make it 4-1 before Håkan Mild scored a consolation goal.

Djurgården win
Elsewhere, Helsingborgs IF faced title challengers Djurgårdens IF who, inspired by Johan Elmander and Kim Källström, ran out 3-1 winners. Two goals from Elmander put the visitors in control before Alvaro Santos' 15th of the season halved the deficit. Louay Chanko then bagged a third for Djurgården to make the points safe and move the club up one place to second.

Örgryte blow
That was made possible by Örgryte IS's surprise 2-1 home defeat against GIF Sundsvall. Örgryte started the brighter but Sundsvall took the lead when Cain Dotson took advantage of some sloppy Örgryte defending. Mattias Thorsell made it 2-0 before Brazilian ace Afonso Alves with his tenth goal of the season for pulled one back.

Champions in relegation fight
With Sundsvall seemingly safe, reigning champions Hammarby are now struggling for survival after a 2-0 home loss against Örebro SK, who had only previously won once away from home this season. Goals from Kenyan Paul Oyuga and Norwegian substitute Eirik Brekkan sealed a result which drags Hammarby into a relegation battle which also involves IF Elfsborg and IFK Norrköping, who faced each other on Monday night, with the latter emerging 3-1 winners.

Norrköping on a high
Norrköping were on a high following their vital victory against Landskrona BoIS in the previous round and handed Australian striker Nick Borsevski his first game in the starting lineup. Borsevski responded with a 40-minute hat-trick as he formed a lethal partnership with Antti Sumiala. Norrköping, who looked doomed for relegation just three rounds ago, have now climbed to tenth place.

Landskrona stunned
Another team desperate for a win were Kalmar FF who hosted Landskrona. Kalmar needed three points in order to retain any hopes of survival and duly responded with a 2-1 victory. In the final game of the round, Halmstads BK travelled to Stockholm to face AIK Solna. Daniel Hoch's seventh goal of the season have AIK the lead but Halmstad grinded their way back into the game and in the dying minutes of the game Sharbel Touma equalised against his former club.
