Grazer give up on Keglevits

Christian Keglevits pays the price for Grazer AK's poor start to the Austrian season.

Grazer AK, who are bottom of the Austrian Bundesliga, have today parted company with their coach, Christian Keglevits.

Thrashed at home
Grazer were beaten 4-0 at home by league leaders FK Austria Wien yesterday and were also eliminated from the first round of the UEFA Cup last week by the Cypriot club APOEL Nicosia FC.

Pressure told
"Exiting the UEFA Cup, our poor results in the league and pressure from sponsors were the decisive reasons for this step," a club statement said. Keglevits' contract ran until the end of the season but the club have not yet revealed if a financial agreement has been reached between the two parties.

Assistants take charge
Assistant coaches Bernd Kovacic and Klaus Schmidt will take over first-team affairs until a replacement is appointed. Keglevits joins a long line of coaches to be given the sack in Austria this season. Even the leaders, Wien, lost patience with their coach, Walter Schachner, and replaced him on Friday with Christoph Daum.
