Grazer go for Schachner

Walter Schachner has been named as the new coach of Grazer AK after being dismissed by FK Austria Wien.

Walter Schachner has been named as the new coach of Grazer AK after being dismissed by FK Austria Wien last week.

Immediate start
Schachner, a former Austrian international, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract and will start his new job immediately. Grazer, who are bottom of the Austrian Bundesliga, sacked coach Christian Keglevits last week after a 4-0 defeat against Wien and elimination from the UEFA Cup.

Surprising decision
Wien ousted the 45-year-old Schachner last week to make way for German coach Christoph Daum. They made the change despite Schachner guiding the club to the top of the table and the second round of the UEFA Cup.
