Belgium round-up: Brugge hit five

Club Brugge KV continued their unbeaten start to the season by beating R. Excelsior Mouscron 5-1.

Belgian first division leaders Club Brugge KV continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 5-1 defeat of R. Excelsior Mouscron on Sunday.

Mendoza double
Andrés Mendoza opened the scoring on 22 minutes and the Peruvian scored another just before the hour mark. Gert Verheyen made it 3-0 in the 65th minute, and although Alo'o Efoulou pulled one back near the end, Verheyen and Alin Stoica ensured Excelsior fell to their second 5-1 reverse in four days after Thursday's UEFA Cup loss to SK Slavia Praha.

Genk hold Anderlecht
RSC Anderlecht lost ground on Brugge after being held to a 1-1 draw by reigning champions KRC Genk in Brussels. Striker Gilles De Bilde put Anderlecht ahead on 35 minutes, but Belgian Player of the Year Wesley Sonck equalised for Genk on 58 minutes to leave his side sixth, two behind Anderlecht.

Ten-goal thriller
Saturday's six games saw 35 goals, the most coming at K. Sint Truidense VV where the home side beat KAA Gent 6-4 to go third. The score was 3-2 to the home side at the break, and only Dalibor Mitrovic's goal three minutes from the end finally secured the three points, Desire Mbonabucya scoring twice for the winners and both Alexandros Kaklamanos and Djima Oyawole claiming doubled for Gent.

Huysegems inspires comeback

Sporting Lokeren St-Niklaas Waaslan were held 3-3 by R. Standard de Liège in an entertaining game. Home side Lokeren needed Papy Kimoto's goal eight minutes from full-time to secure a point and deny Standard their first win of the season, although the visitors do move out of last place.

Five for Lommelse
KFC Lommelse SK picked up three valuable points with a 5-1 victory against KVC Westerlo, while R. Charleroi SC went bottom after losing 4-1 at R. AEC Mons. KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen and KV Mechelen drew 0-0.
