Peev punished for provoking brawl

FC Dynamo Kyiv midfield player Gueorgui Peev has been banned for five domestic matches for inciting a fight.

FC Dynamo Kyiv will not appeal after midfield player Georgi Peev was banned for five Ukrainian Premier League matches for inciting a fight in a game against FC Metalurh Donetsk.

Mass brawl
The Professional Football League (PFL) acted after examining video evidence of the Bulgarian international striking Metalurh player Volodymyr Ponomarenko, an action which led to a mass brawl. Peev, 23, will not play domestic football again before the winter break, although he will be eligible to continue playing in the UEFA Champions League.

Harsh punishments
"The decision against Peev could have been much harsher," said Dynamo president Ihor Surkis. "Georgi could have been banned for ten matches and Dynamo would not have protested about it. The club has punished those involved even harsher - we've never seen such behaviour from Dynamo players before."

Clubs and players fined
Ponomarenko was banned for two games and his club fined €3,000, while Dynamo and their midfield player Aleksandr Khatskevich were each handed €5,000 fines.
