Article body
Serie A club Torino Calcio have sacked coach Giancarlo Camolese.
Cup defeat
The move comes despite Torino recording their first league win of the season last Sunday with a 1-0 victory against AC Chievo Verona. The final straw was last night's 2-1 home defeat by Empoli FC in the Coppa Italia that meant a 3-2 exit on aggregate.
Thanked for work
"Torino have changed coach," the club said today. "This morning Giancarlo Camolese has been dismissed after two seasons in charge. The club wants to thank the coach for the work he has done." Camolese, who had taken Torino to the top flight in 2001, will be temporarily replaced by youth coach Renato Zaccarelli, although former Parma AC coach Renzo Ulivieri is the favourite to take the job on a permanent basis.
Four defeats
After five rounds of Serie A this season, Torino are third from bottom after losing their first four games. Only Reggina Calcio and Atalanta BC are below them in the table, with Torino travelling to Reggina on Sunday.
Intertoto exit
Last season, Camolese guided Torino to eleventh place in the league and qualification for the 2002/03 UEFA Intertoto Cup. However, they were knocked out in the second round by Villarreal CF.
