Sweden round-up: No relief for Göteborg

Members

A goalless draw against Landskrona BoIS left IFK Göteborg facing relegation for the first time in 38 years.

Heavy snow
In a game that was played at Nya Ullevi because of the heavy snowfall in Gothenburg, both sides proved to be equally matched but despite plenty
of possession in the second half, Göteborg failed to come up with any real chances. Landskrona looked satisfied with a draw which looks almost certain to have secured their top-flight status for next season.

Disastrous season
Göteborg's disastrous season is the talk of the country these days, and with only two games left, against relegation candidates and reigning champions Hammarby IF FF and bottom club Kalmar FF, relegation is staring Göteborg in the face. Should the team fail to survive it will see an end to a 38-year stay in the top flight

Rehn absent
At the other end of the table, Djurgårdens IF FF clinched a vital 1-0 win against Kalmar. Djurgården travelled to Kalmar without midfield ace Stefan Rehn, but Kim Källström once again showed his worth. The midfield player, who earned his first full international cap against Portugal last Wednesday, dominated and after 20 minutes he sealed the game with a powerful drive from 20 metres.

Tight encounter
Kalmar, desperate for a win to keep their top-flight dreams alive, pushed forward in the second half to try to grab an equaliser. Daniel Mobaek came close but Swedish international goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson made a fingertip save and, in the end, Djurgården's possession football proved too much for Kalmar.

AIK resurgent
Elsewhere on Sunday, AIK Solna won against GIF Sundsvall, courtesy of a late penalty by Stefan Ishizaki to remain in fourth place.
