Bologna FC have agreed to cancel left-back Fabio Macellari's contract at the player's request.

Bologna FC have agreed to terminate left-back Fabio Macellari's contract at the player's request.

Personal reasons
The 28-year-old former Internazionale FC defender had been expected to return to action next Sunday after being out for almost a year with a knee ligament injury. However, personal reasons have prompted him to walk away from the Renato Dall'Ara stadium.

'No problems with the club'
"I'm not crazy and there is nothing strange behind my decision," Macellari said. "I just want to say that I didn't have any problem with the coach, with my team-mates and with the club. I will give an explanation in the next few days."

Guidolin 'surprised'
The news was a bolt from the blue for Bologna coach Francesco Guidolin who said: "I'm really surprised. We had been talking about technical matters but he has never spoken with me about his personal problems."

Olive blow
There was further bad news for Guidolin who learnt today that midfield player Renato Olive, who limped out of the 3-0 win over Brescia last Sunday, will be out of action for almost a month with a thigh strain.

Injured list
Olive's absence adds to Guidolin's worries ahead of Sunday's match against Internazionale FC as defender Giulio Falcone is doubtful with a knee injury, Marco Zanchi faces a one-match suspension and Giuseppe Signori is also missing with a muscle injury.
