Vierchowod dismissed by Florentia

Members

Florentia Viola have sacked their coach Pietro Vierchowod after a poor start to life in Italy's fourth division.

Club renamed
The former Italian international took charge in the summer after AC Fiorentina went into bankruptcy and were reformed as Florentia Viola. Florentia suffered their second defeat of the campaign on Sunday against Grosseto Calcio to drop to seventh place in the division, Italy's fourth tier.

Cavasin steps in
Vierchowod's replacement will be Alberto Cavasin, who has been without a club since he was dismissed last season by US Lecce. "There is a lot of work to do," the 46-year-old said. "However, it is not a problem for me to restart my career from Serie C2 because Florence is a fantastic town and the club have great plans for the future."

'Big mistakes'
Florentia captain Angelo Di Livio said: "We are sorry for Pietro Vierchowod and feel responsible for his dismissal because we made some big mistakes against Grosseto."

Former president arrested
Meanwhile, former Fiorentina president Vittorio Cecchi Gori was arrested today regarding alleged fraudulent bankruptcy. An investigation into Fiorentina's financial situation started in the summer of 2001 after players sued the club for not paying their wages.
