Sweden round-up: Rehn delight for Djurgården

Stefan Rehn moved Djurgårdens IF closer to their first title since 1966 with the winner against GIF Sundsvall.

Stefan Rehn was the hero for Djurgårdens IF as they virtually sealed their first Allsvenskan title since 1966 with a 2-1 victory over battling GIF Sundsvall this evening.

'Fantastic end'
Rehn scored the winning goal in the 51st minute of his penultimate game before hanging up his boots at the end of the 2002 season. A former international who represented Sweden at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, Rehn said: "We're close and I can't deny it is looking extremely good. It would be a fantastic end for me."

Pole position
Sören Åkeby's men lead second-placed Malmö FF by six points - but Malmö need to win their remaining two games and hope Djurgården falter in their final match against IF Elfsborg if they are to steal the crown from their grasp.

Svenning shock
It was a tense opening for the hosts with Sundsvall in determined mood, particularly in midfield and along the wings. Norwegian Øyvind Svenning stunned the 14,266 crowd by giving the visitors a surprise 14th-minute lead with a header after Tom Kåre Staurvik curled a free-kick into the penalty area.

Källström fouled
The game threatened to get out of hand in the 35th minute when Kim Källström was fouled, and for a while it seemed as if the talented international would not be able to continue as he limped off for treatment. However, the incident seemed to spur Djurgården. They fought back into the game and on-loan Feyenoord player Johan Elmander levelled six minutes before half-time.

Simple finish
After the break, Djurgården were a different side with Källström showing why many of Europe's top clubs are courting him. In the 51st minute, he won possession and sent a powerful shot towards the Sundsvall goal. The ball rebounded off a Sundsvall defender and fell to Rehn. He found the net with a simple finish and the hosts kept their nerve to seal a crucial win.
