MTK Hungária FC held on to their first division lead with a 5-1 win against Dunaferr SE.

MTK Hungária FC maintained their lead in the Hungarian first division with a 5-1 win against 1999/00 champions Dunaferr SE.

'Elegant football'
Gábor Zavadszky put MTK ahead on seven minutes and Alin Rednic doubled the lead midway through the first half. Gábor Zavadszky made it three after the break, and although former MTK player Iván Balaskó pulled one back for Dunaferr just past the hour, Béla Illés was on target to make it 4-1, and the scoring was completed by István Ferenczi. MTK coach Sándor Egervári said after the game: "I'm delighted with the three points but the best thing is that we played impressive and elegant football."

Contenders in touch
Ferencvárosi TC are still four points behind MTK in second after winning 3-0 at Videoton FC Fehérvár 3-0 in a match played behind closed doors due to previous crowd disturbances. The visitors' captain and international midfield player Péter Lipcsei scored twice to maintain a two point advantage over third-placed Debreceni VSC, who kept up the pressure with a 6-1 victory against bottom-placed Békéscsabai EFC, Romanian striker Marius Sumudica turning on the style with four goals.

Németh clincher
Györi ETO FC are also in touch with the leaders after a 3-1 home win against struggling Kispest Honvéd FC. Károly Szanyó put Gyor ahead on 32 minutes with a penalty and early in the second half striker Igor Nichenko made it 2-0. Attila Piroska's close range effort gave the visitors hope in the 55th minunte, but Hungarian Under-21 International midfield player Norbert Németh sealed the game for the hosts in added time. After the game the winning coach, Zsolt Tamási said: "We played a very hard game with Kispest. After an even first half we should have won the match earlier then in the last minute with all our chances. Anyway, at the end of the day, I'm happy."

Tamási double
Újpesti TE captain Zoltán Tamási scored twice as his side overcame MFC Sopron 3-0, and midfield player Csaba Balog claimed the only goal of the match as Zalaegerszegi TE beat Siófoki BSE 1-0.
