Turkey round-up: Gaziantepspor sneak to summit

Gaziantepspor profited from Galatasaray SK’s recent dip in form to grab top spot this weekend.

Gaziantepspor have profited from Galatasaray SK’s dip in form to claim Turkish Super League top spot courtesy of a 3-1 away defeat of Istanbulspor AS.

Immaculate connection
Brazilian Viola connected immaculately with Murat Erdogan's cross to head in the opener and although the home side levelled on 56 minutes, Kemal Aslan and Cesar made sure of the points.

Still reeling
Galatasaray appeared to still be reeling from their 6-0 midweek drubbing at the hands of Fenerbahçe SK as the Turkish champions could find no way past Adanaspor AS in a scoreless draw. Arif Erdem hit the post twice, as did Hasan Sas from 25-meters.

Welcome points
Fenerbahçe collected three welcome points despite going a goal down to Samsunspor, overcoming the deficit after Musa Aydin's goal on the half hour to win 3-1, levelling through Ceyhun Eris and going ahead through Milan Rapaic before Serhat Akin grabbed a last-minute winner.

Onwards and upwards
Kocaelispor's ascendancy, meanwhile, continued unabated as they beat Denizlispor 2-1, taking the lead through Volkan Arslan's free-kick and doubling it on 71 minutes after Emrah Eren's pass found Hüseyin Karakayis, who nipped in from the right. The visitors pulled one back late on through Ilyas Kahraman.

Hassan winner
Izmir side Altay looked to be heading for a scoreless draw with Gençlerbirligi until Ahmed Hassan's goal four minutes from time denied them a point. Bursaspor and Malatyaspor shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, the home side going ahead on 47 minutes with Okan Yilmaz's header. The advantage, however, lasted only a quarter of an hour before Hasan Özer equalised with a header.

Hacioglu double
Diyarbakirspor sunk Ankaragücü 3-0, Saffet Akyüz's header opening the scoring on 14 minutes and Murat Hacioglu hitting twice before the break. Trabzonspor, meanwhile, swept aside Göztepe 2-1 and Besiktas JK defeated Elazigspor 3-1.
