Points boost for Giannina

Newly promoted Greek club PAS Giannina FC have had a 12-point deduction overturned on appeal.

PAS Giannina FC's bid to remain in the Alpha Ethniki for more than a season received a boost today when the Appeals Committee of the Hellenic Football League (EPAE) overturned a 12-point penalty imposed in September.

Rooted to the bottom
Giannina were hit with the points deduction after failing to meet debts to former players. The decision left the newly promoted club rooted to the foot of the Greek top flight, a position which led to the departure of coach Vassilis Papachristou last month.

Evidence produced
The additional 12 points mean Giannina climb to 14th in the 16-team table, level on points with Akratitos who also have four points from seven matches. The decision to return the points to Giannina was reached when the club's president, Manthos Kolebas, produced documentary evidence to show former players had been paid.
