Article body
RC Celta de Vigo became the fourth Primera División side to fall to lower-league opposition in the Spanish Cup when they lost 1-0 at second division CD Numancia on Thursday night.
Rosu on target
Romanian forward Laurentiu Rosu scored the only goal of the second-round game at Numancia's Los Pajaritos stadium with a fine left-footed finish on 13 minutes, spoiling Celta coach Miguel Angel Lotina's return to his former club.
Short of ideas
Celta, who have not won in their last three league games, were unable to find their rhythm in the first half and looked short of ideas in attack without injured playmaker Aleksandr Mostovoi.
Manolo sent off
Lotina threw on striker Catanha and Argentinian winger Gustavo López in the second half in the hope of spicing up his side's attack, and Numancia's lead was under severe threat after they were reduced to ten men following the late dismissal of midfield player Manolo.
Other upsets
However, the home side managed to hang on to their slender lead to join the list of sides in the last 16. On Wednesday night, league champions Valencia CF, Athletic Club Bilbao, and Málaga CF all lost to lower-league opposition.
