Article body
FK Sviesa Vilnius have taken a step closer to entering the Lithuanian A Lyga after defeating KASK FK Gelezinis Vilkas 1-0 in the first leg of their promotion/relegation play-off.
Intriguing return
Kestutis Rudzionis scored the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute to set up an intriguing return game against Vilkas who finished second from bottom in the top flight this season.
Fourth-placed finish
Sviesa, coached by former Lithuania Under-21 trainer Algimantas Liubinskas, were only promoted to the first division last season and ended the campaign outside a play-off berth, in fourth place. The reserve sides of A Lyga clubs FK Zalgiris Vilnius and FBK Kaunas finished ahead of them, but Lithuanian Football Federation rules prohibit their promotion.
Return leg on Sunday
Liubinskas's team will be hoping to follow first division champions FK Vetra into the A Lyga after the return leg on Sunday.
