Former Swedish international Anders Limpar has brought down the curtain on his career at the age of 37.

Moved abroad
Limpar started his senior career at IF Brommapojkarna and after a successful spell at Örgryte IS, the talented winger went on to play for Switzerland's BSC Young Boys and US Cremonese in Italy. After playing for Sweden in the 1990 FIFA World Cup he left Italy for Arsenal FC where he collected a league championship medal at the end of his first season.

Player of the year
His achievements with the London club also earned him the Golden Ball for Swedish player of the year in 1991. Limpar, who was also in Sweden's squads at the 1992 UEFA European Championship and USA 94, was capped 58 times in all for his country, scoring six goals.

Cup win
Limpar moved on to Everton FC in March 1994 and the following year played a pivotal role as the Merseysiders won the FA Cup final against Manchester United FC. Limpar remained at Goodison Park for three years before stepping down a division to join Birmingham City FC for a short spell.

Swedish title
In 1998 he returned home to join AIK Solna. After AIK had secured the Swedish title in 1998, Limpar crossed the Atlantic to play for Colorado Rapids in the American MLS, staying in the States until 2001 when Djurgårdens IF brought him back to Sweden.

Back home
Limpar, who had always been seen as an AIK man, was criticised for his decision to sign for their rivals and in the end bowed to the pressure and returned to Brommapojkarna in the Swedish third division.
