Article body
Stefan Rehn has joined the coaching staff of the recently crowned Swedish champions Djurgårdens IF, three weeks after he retired from playing aged 36.
'An inspiration'
A former IFK Göteborg, Everton FC and Sweden midfield player, Rehn was an inspirational performer as Djurgården won their first Allsvenskan title in 36 years earlier this month. The club's head coach, Søren Åkeby, described Rehn as "our heart" and "an inspiration to our players" and welcomes him to a three-man coaching team.
Work in tandem
Åkeby, who formerly coached Djurgården's first team and reserves, will now concentrate solely on the seniors, with the assistance of Zoran Lukic and Rehn who will also work in tandem to build a successful reserve side.
'Great news for Djurgården'
The Djurgården chairman Bo Lundqvist said: "I can't think of a better coach than Rehn for this job. We'll now have the opportunity to benefit from all his experience and that is something that I know that the players will appreciate. It goes without saying that this is great news for Djurgården."
