Turkey round-up: Fenerbahçe rampant in derby

Fenerbahçe SK were emphatic 6-0 derby winners against Galatasaray SK, despite having Ariel Ortega sent off.

Fenerbahçe SK have jumped to fourth from eighth in the Turkish Super League after an incredible 6-0 derby win against Galatasaray SK in Istanbul tonight despite Ariel Ortega's sending off.

Seven points behind
The win moved Fenerbahçe to 19 points from ten games, leaving them seven points behind first-placed Galatasaray with a game in hand. The home team took the lead after just ten minutes through youngster Tuncay Sanli. Argentina playmaker Ortega then made it two six minutes before half-time.

Ortega off
Fenerbahçe looked in command at the interval but were rocked when Ortega was sent off on 58 minutes. However, rather than lead to a Galatasaray revival, Fenerbahçe powered forward and added four more goals. It was a stunning display against a team that had yet to be beaten in domestic action this season.

Double for Akin
Akin Serhat hit a quick-fire double on 69 and 75 minutes, before Eris Ceyhun made it four with eleven minutes to play. The final goal of the night came from Ümit Özat thre minutes from time, just after Galatasaray were reduced to ten men themselves with Emre Asik's dismissal.

European hope
The defeat was not ideal preparation for Galatasaray, who have an important UEFA Champions League fixture against FC Barcelona next Wednesday. The Turkish club must win, and hope that Club Brugge KV fail to beat FC Lokomotiv Moskva.

Honours even
In the night's other game, Denizlispor drew 2-2 at home against Bursaspor. Despite the point, the hosts remain in eleventh place, two points and two places above tonight's opponents.
