AIK coach Dusan Uhrin has parted company with the Swedish Cup finalists to return to his native Czech Republic.
Break from coaching
Uhrin, whose club finished fifth in the Allsvenskan in the 2002 season, decided not to sign a new contract and will instead take a break from coaching. "I fulfilled my role there and can leave calmly," said the 59-year-old former Czech national coach who led his nation to the EURO 96™ final. "I do not want to coach anymore, at least not right away. I want to stay in soccer, but I do not know in what role as of yet."
Final defeat
Ambitious AIK have made a number of close-season signings, including goalkeeper Håkan Svensson, after a campaign which saw them coached by Olle Nordin and Peter Larsson prior to Uhrin's arrival. The Czech coach led the club to a domestic cup final, before losing 1-0 to Stockholm rivals Djurgårdens IF.
Like father, like son
However, the name Dusan Uhrin will not disappear altogether from the back pages of Czech newspapers, as his son of the same name coaches CU Bohemians Praha, "I saw him coach for the first time last Sunday against [1.] FC Synot," said Uhrin senior. "We talk often about soccer by phone."
