FC St.Gallen suffered the biggest defeat in both club and Swiss Nationalliga A history as they lost 11-3 to FC Wil 1900 on a weekend that produced 35 goals in six matches.

Former champions destroyed
St. Gallen went ahead on three minutes, but their celebrations were cut short as a Yacouba Bamba double and goals from Umberto Romano, Naldo and Fabinho made it 5-1, with the score at the break 6-3. Romano, Naldo, Mordeku, Felix Mordeku, Mauro Lustrinelli and Dusan Pavlovic were all on target in the second half to destroy the 2000 champions.

Tight win
Grasshopper-Club remained top of the table after a tight 3-2 victory against FC Luzern. The visiting side took the lead in the fourth minute and but Richard Nunez levelled just after the half-hour. Nunez made it 2-1 on 77 minutes and Roland Scwegles helped his side to a victory with a goal three minutes later. Francesco Di Jorio pulled one back three minutes from the end.

Eight-goal thriller
Title-holders FC Basel remain a point behind as they warmed up for Tuesday's rescheduled UEFA Champions League game at FC Spartak Moskva with a 5-3 Friday night win against FC Zürich. Ivan Ergic scored for Basel on four minutes but Stephan Keller and Alexandre Jefferson put Zürich ahead midway through the first half. However, Julio Hernan Rossi and Ergic restored Basel's lead with goals in the last four minutes of the opening period, and after the break Rossi made it 4-2. Sergio Jose Bastida pulled one back immediately, but Carlos Varela's goal 14 minutes from the end clinched the win for Basel.

Vital win
Struggling Neuchâtel Xamax FC secured a useful 3-1 win against BSC Young Boys. Leandro Fonseca put the home side ahead from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute but Young Boys hit back through Stéphane Chapuisat just before half-time. However, Alexandre Rey made it 2-1 to Xamax with his sixth goal of the season after 56 minutes and Remo Buess ensured the win 12 minutes from the end to move his side out of the bottom four at the expense of Luzern.

Delémont disappoitment
The result was bad news for fellow strugglers SR Delémont who lost 3-0 at bottom-placed FC Aarau, conceding three second-half goals after being reduced to ten men when Jean-Philippe Karlen was sent off. Servette FC are also in danger after losing 1-0 at FC Thun.
