Another injury
The 34-year-old was originally scheduled to be operated on during the winter break, but an x-ray confirming a fresh injury to his ankle which would rule him out for a fortnight anyway has prompted Max to bring his surgery forward.
First cap
Max has been with the club since 1999 after playing for, amongst others, FC Schalke 04 and BV Borussia Mönchengladbach. A prolific marksman, he has scored 103 goals in 350 1. Bundesliga matches and has been capped once by Germany, in the pre-2002 FIFA World Cup friendly international against Argentina.
Leading scorer
Despite making a late charge for inclusion in Rudi Völler's 23-man squad, Max missed out as Germany made it to the final at Korea/Japan. Some consolation for Max was that he ended the season as the Bundesliga's top scorer, a feat also achieved in 1999/00.
