Shelbourne FC hung on to second place in the Irish Premier Division with a 2-1 victory over Bray Wanderers AFC at the Carlisle Grounds.
Eager Beavers
A new signing, English striker Paul Beavers, was the hero for Shelbourne, heading the winning goal six minutes from time. Earlier, Shelbourne had taken the lead after a wonderful move on thirteen minutes was eventually finished by Stuart Byrne. Graham O'Hanlon equalised for Bray shortly into the second half, but the late strike from Beavers gave Pat Fenlon's side all three points.
Drogheda draw
Saint Patrick's Athletic FC and Drogheda United FC played out a 1-1 draw at Richmond Park. Drogheda's players had threatened strike action over unpaid wages during the week, but battled hard in this match, taking the lead through Declan O'Brien after 19 minutes. However, it was not enough to earn all three points for Harry McCue's side, with a Ger McCarthy header after 37 minutes securing a point for Pat Dolan's team.
Cork go down
University College Dublin FC moved off the bottom of the table after a surprise 1-0 win against Cork City FC in a disappointing match at Belfield Park. In a game of few chances, Tony McDonnell's 57th minute header from eight metres was enough to give Paul Doolin's side a crucial three points in their battle against relegation
Goalless draw
In the weekend's other match, the clash between mid-table sides Longford Town FC and Shamrock Rovers FC finished scoreless at Flancare Park.
