Russia Premier-Liga side FC Uralan Elista have appointed Igor Shalimov as their head coach.

Frantic pre-season
In a frantic pre-season, Uralan have therefore become the fourth Russian club to appoint a new coach. Shalimov will replace Revaz Dzodzuashvili, who, in turn, had taken over from Sergey Pavlov in the summer. Dzodzuashvili, however, may stay on at the club in another capacity.

Youngest coach
Shalimov, a legendary former FC Spartak Moskva and Russia player recently, has never coached at this level before. Indeed, the former Internazionale FC, Udinese Calcio, Bologna FC and Foggia Calcio player will now be the youngest coach in the Premier-Liga.

Huge transfer
The Russian, whose transfer from Foggia to Inter in 1992 was one of the biggest in the world at that time, ended his playing career earlier this year because of injury. In 1999, after a Serie B match he was charged with a doping offence and banned for two years.

UEFA Cup win
In 2001, Shalimov, who also won the UEFA Cup with Inter, joined Russian second division side FC Krasnoznamensk as general director. He then became head coach of the club which went on to finish eighth in the division. Shalimov won a total of 47 caps for the USSR and Russia.
