Struggling Ligue 1 club ES Troyes Aube Champagne have fired coach Jacky Bonnevay.

Struggling Ligue 1 club ES Troyes Aube Champagne fired coach Jacky Bonnevay on Tuesday because of the club's poor results so far this season.

'Interesting leads'
"The club's officials have reviewed the recent results of the team and they have decided to split with Jacky Bonnevay from today," the club said on its official website. A replacement for Bonnevay, who joined the club after Alain Perrin moved to Olympique de Marseille in the close season, has not yet been appointed but Troyes said they have "several interesting leads" and have put assistant coach Serge Romano and reserve coach Carlos López in temporary charge.

New coach by winter break
"The club will then start the new year with a new coach who should be appointed during the winter break," said club president Daniel Vacelet. "We have three possibilities, but the one who will accept the challenge will be in charge until the end of the season."

'Difficult decision'
"Jacky Bonnevay understood our decision very well considering that the results did not live up expectations," Vacelet continued. "I do not want to criticise him because he had the courage to take over from Alain Perrin. It was a very difficult decision to take - but I did my job. I hope Jacky will find a new club very soon."

Season so far
Troyes finished seventh under Perrin last season, but they have won just three of their opening 16 league matches this term. They also were knocked out of the UEFA Intertoto Cup at the semi-final stage, losing 3-0 on aggregate to Spanish side Villarreal CF.
