English experience
Golac made his name as a right-back at FK Partizan and was a full Yugoslavian international. In 1978, he moved to England, where he joined English side Southampton FC. In ten seasons there, he made 350 appearances for the club.
Off to Scotland
His coaching career began at Partizan, with whom he won the Yugoslav title and cup in 1989. From 1993 until 1995, he coached Scottish side Dundee United FC, winning the Scottish Cup in 1994. More recently, Golac had been coaching Yugoslavian side FK Sartid.
New broom
The 52-year-old Golac will be assisted by Dragan Simonovic and Ilie Sormac, and he has already planned a spate of new signings. Alexey Suchkov from Belarussian side FC Neman Grodno, Zarko Juric from Partizan and Zoran Ban from Belgian side R. Excelsior Mouscron, have all joined Karpaty for trials.
Fifth coach
Karpaty are 12th in the Ukrainian league, which has now gone into its winter break. Golac is the first foreign coach in Karpaty's 40-year history, and has become the fifth coach this year to take charge of the club with Myron Markevich, Volodymyr Zhuravchak, Levko Brovarskijy and Valentin Khodukin all resigning after the team failed to produce results.
