Hamburger SV have lost striker Bernardo Romeo for their last two games of 2002 after being told he needs surgery to correct a slipped disc.
Serious pain
The Argentinian international forward has been in tremendous form at the AOL Arena, scoring eight goals in 14 league matches so far this season. He complained of serious back pain after playing for Hamburg in Tuesday night's 1-0 German Cup defeat by VfL Bochum.
Operation needed
Tests have shown he needs an operation to correct the problem which means he will miss the 1. Bundesliga matches against Bochum and FC Hansa Rostock before the winter break. The German seasons resumes on 26 January, when Hamburg travel to face Hannover 96.
First full season
Romeo, 25, is in his first full season with Hamburg after joining from CA San Lorenzo in his homeland in the middle of last season. This campaign, he has helped Hamburg to seventh in the table with 23 points from 15 games.
