Truck collision
The Czech international's car was in collision with a truck near Prague, as he was returning with his family from a short holiday. Baranek's son was also injured in the crash.

Five-month absence
Baranek is expected to be out for five months, keeping him out when the Czech first division resumes in Februrary with Sparta four points clear at the top halfway through the 30-game season.

Summer return
Capped 17 times by the Czech Republic, Baranek has scored three times in eleven matches since his summer return to Sparta after two seasons with German team 1.FC Köln. He began his career with SK Sigma Olomouc, moving to Sparta for his first spell in the 1997/98 season.

Second loss
His loss is a second blow for Sparta, who are already without fellow forward Libor Sionko with a knee injury.
