A joint statement from the clubs said: "We are hoping the mix of talented youngsters and veteran players we have at our disposal will pay off in the next championship." The new team's identity is unknown, although Banants coach Armen Gyulbuagyants has been revealed as the man to lead the enterprise. His team finished third in the league last season.
Room for improvement
Meanwhile, Spartak president Sargis Israelyan, whose side took fourth place, said: "The poor showing of Armenian clubs in Europe made us contemplate our future. This season, Spartak lost to Swiss side Servette FC 5-0 on agggregate. We are hoping to improve internationally." Israelyan is expected to be named chairman ahead of his Banants counterpart Eduard Madatyan.
