Article body
Heinz Peischl, the man who in his last job masterminded one of FC St Gallen's most embarrassing defeats, has been appointed the Swiss club's new coach.
Staub stands down
The Austrian was in charge of FC Wil 1900, St Gallen's feeder club, when they thrashed the Espenmoos stadium side 11-3 in a Nationalliga A match in early November. The loss prompted the then St Gallen coach Thomas Straub to announce that he would stand down as soon as a suitable replacement was found.
Patient wait
St Gallen have waited patiently to get their No1 target. Peischl has signed an 18-month contract to replace Staub, who returns to his duties as youth-team coach after taking over the first team from the sacked Gerard Castella in September.
Play-off looms
Peischl's chief task will be to keep his new club in the top flight - St Gallen are due to play in a relegation/promotion play-off following the winter break after coming tenth in the 12-team league. In contrast, Wil finished fourth.
