FC Midtjylland midfield player Jens Jessen has been forced to retire after failing to recover from a serious knee injury.
Knee operation
The 35-year-old underwent exploratory surgery which convinced him to call it a day. "As the doctors opened up my knee they saw that there actually wasn't any ligament left," he said. "My knee is worn out." The veteran player had set himself a target of returning to the field in the spring but he accepts that willpower alone may not necessarily permit him to continue playing.
Uncertain future
"It's an unhappy situation for Jens and for Midtjylland," said coach Troels Bech. "But he was a great player and a great career which is now ending and for the same reason we are proud to be his last club. Now it's also our responsibility to help him on in his life."
