Scotland round-up: Old Firm delight for Rangers

Rangers FC won a thrilling Old Firm match against Celtic FC 3-2 to leapfrog their rivals and take top spot in the Scottish Premier League.

Awful start
The 3-2 triumph came after the worst possible start to the match for the Ibrox side when Chris Sutton scored after 19 seconds without a Rangers player having touched the ball to give the visitors the advantage.

Rangers fight back
Australian defender Craig Moore equalised with a powerful 10th-minute header and the home side took control by adding two more goals before half-time. Netherlands international Ronald de Boer volleyed home Neil McCann's teasing cross and then Michael Mols scored from ten metres five minutes before the interval.

Hartson strike
Celtic threatened a comeback when Wales international John Hartson scored in the 61st minute, but a tempestuous match ended with Rangers taking the spoils and a two-point lead into the second half of the season.

Partick rampant
Third-placed Dunfermline Athletic FC crashed to a shock 4-0 defeat against Partick Thistle FC at Firhill. Gerry Britton started the goal spree and after a double from Alex Burns, Scott McLean added the fourth goal for what was Thistle's fourth successive home win.

Joy for Hearts
Heart of Midlothian FC bounced back from two heavy defeats in the last six days to record a 2-1 win against Livingston FC at Tynecastle. Northern Ireland striker Andy Kirk scored both Hearts goals, with the second from the penalty spot proving to be the matchwiner after Rolando Zarate had drawn Livingston level.

Early goals
Two early goals at Tannadice led to a 1-1 draw between Dundee United FC and Hibernian FC. Mark Wilson scored his first goal for United in the third minute and Scotland international Ian Murray levelled for Hibernian four minutes later. Elsewhere, Steve Fulton and Kris Boyd scored in the second-half to give Kilmarnock FC a 2-0 home win against Dundee FC.

Aberdeen held
Aberdeen FC caretaker-boss Gardner Speirs watched his side draw 1-1 at home against  Motherwell FC who remain bottom of the table. Derek Young's first-half goal was cancelled out by Billy Kinniburgh in the 59th minute before Aberdeen defender Kevin Rutkiewicz was sent off for two bookable offences.
