Bohemian FC stayed seven points clear at the top of the FAI National League this weekend thanks to a thrilling 3-2 defeat of arch-rivals Shamrock Rovers FC.
Molloy double
Former Bohemians striker Trevor Molloy scored twice for the visitors in the first half to put them 2-1 up at the break after Derek Coughlan was on target for Bohemians, but poor goalkeeping from Tony O'Dowd allowed Irish international Glen Crowe to equalise from close range on 52 minutes.
Hawkins decider
Molloy then squandered a great chance to complete his hat-trick, ruing the miss when Colin Hawkins headed in a Fergal Harkin cross with twelve minutes to go to give the hosts all three points.
In touch
Shelbourne FC kept up the pressure on the leaders with a 2-0 win over University College Dublin FC at Belfield Park. Stephen Geogeghan opened the scoring for Shelbourne in the 12th minute after a mix-up between UCD goalkeeper Patrick Jennings and defender Darragh Ryan. Substitute Alex Nesovic scored with his first touch early in the second half to secure victory for Pat Fenlon's side.
Bray boost
Last-placed Bray Wanderers AFC boosted their chances of avoiding relegation with a stunning 4-1 away win over Saint Patricks Athletic FC. Two first half goals from Jason Byrne put Bray in charge at the break, and early second half strikes from Barry O'Connor and teenager John Flood put Pat Devlin's side in control. Paul Osam scored a consolation for St Patrick's, who have slipped to within six points of the relegation zone.
Delany miss
Drogheda United FC and Cork City FC played out a scoreless draw, with Derek Delany missing a great chance in the dying seconds to earn a badly needed victory.
