Bohemian rhapsody
Shelbourne win
Second placed Shelbourne FC scored twice in the final ten minutes to secure a 2-0 victory against rivals St Patrick's Athletic FC at Tolka Park. Dessie Baker, returning from a long absence, created the opportunity for Jim Gannon to give Shelbourne the lead after 81 minutes, and Stephen Geogeghan scored a deserved second for Pat Fenlon's side a minute from the end.
Late goals defeat Derry
Cork City FC also claimed two late goals to defeat Derry City FC 2-1. Derry's Eamonn Doherty put the visitors in front after 50 minutes, but a Paddy McLaughlin own goal and a rare strike from defender Neil Horgan gave Cork all three points, condemning FAI Cup winners Derry to a fourth consecutive loss.
Penalty save decisive
University College Dublin FC continued their recent run of excellent form, with a 1-0 victory away to Shamrock Rovers FC. Robbie Martin and Darragh Ryan combined to set up midfield player John Martin to score after three minutes. Trevor Molloy's 53rd-minute penalty was saved by UCD keeper Barry Ryan, as Paul Doolin's side held on to take all three points.
Rogers keeps out Longford
Longford Town FC and Drogheda United FC played out a 0-0 draw. Visiting Drogheda goalkeeper Gary Rogers produced a series of saves to prevent the hosts from taking all three points.
