Norway dig in to deny China

Norway denied China overall success by drawing 1-1, leaving the US to win the event by defeating Germany.

Norway denied China Four Nations Women's Tournament success by drawing 1-1 with the hosts, leaving the United States to win the event with a 1-0 defeat of Germany.

Wei forward
The Chinese, who will also host the FIFA Women's World Cup in September, needed a victory to assure themselves of top spot in this competition which features the world's four strongest teams. They were on their way to three points when Teng Wei rifled in a shot from distance to send them in a goal to the good at the interval.

Mellgren on top
Yet Åge Steen's side are nothing if not resilient and they needed just two minutes of the second half to draw level, Unni Lehn's shot finding its way in courtesy of a deflection.  Neither team could find a winning goal, leaving Norway to claim their second draw in three games. Although they finished bottom of the group, Norwegian striker Dagny Mellgren finished as the tournament's leading scorer.

Injured captain
Germany, the European champions, finished ahead of Norway on goal difference after both lost to the US. Missing captain Bettina Wiegmann, who had a hamstring injury, and with Martina Müller ploughing a lone furrow in attack, Germany were always on the backfoot. They lost the game when midfield player Devvyn Hawkins slotted in the only goal in the 18th minute.
