Republic of Ireland round-up: Bohemians crowned

Bohemian FC became European football's first domestic champions of 2003 on Sunday when they secured the FAI League title with a 1-0 win against second-placed Shelbourne FC.

Ryan the hero
Midfield player Bobby Ryan's 90th-minute goal gave Bohemians the victory which puts them seven points clear of their Dublin rivals with just two games remaining.

Cahill chance
In a tense game at Tolka Park, Bohemians had the better of the first half with Mark Rutherford and Kevin Hunt going close before Shelbourne, desperate for all three points, came into the game. Ollie Cahill's header on the hour was brilliantly saved by Bohemians goalkeeper Ashley Bayes. But one minute from time Rutherford crossed for Ryan to find the net with a header seven metres out and claim the championship for Stephen Kenny's side.

Murray leveller
In the weekend's other games, Cork City FC and Shamrock Rovers FC played out a 1-1 draw at Turner's Cross to keep the race for the UEFA Intertoto Cup spot alive. Dan Murray equalised for Cork in injury time to cancel out an earlier strike from Noel Hunt.

Bray blues
Elsewhere, Bray Wanderers FC were relegated after losing 2-1 at home to Derry City FC, with a Sean Hargan strike 13 minutes from time condemning Pat Devlin's side to lower division football.

O'Donnell decisive
Meanwhile, ten-man University College Dublin FC eased their relegation worries with a 1-0 victory at Drogheda United FC's O2 Park courtesy of a late strike from Michael O'Donnell. Sean Francis and Eric Lavine fired Longford Town FC to a 2-0 win against St Patrick's Athletic FC at Richmond Park.
