Fenerbahçe capture Beschastnykh

FC Spartak Moskva and Russia striker Vladimir Beschastnykh is joining Turkey's Fenerbahçe SK.

'A club with ambition'
"Fenerbahçe are a club with a name and ambition, so I had no reason to hesitate," said Beschastnykh, who will arrive in Istanbul on Wednesday.

Bolton trial
The 28-year-old, whose projected move to Premiership side Bolton Wanderers FC fell through several weeks ago, said he had received offers from other English clubs but felt Fenerbahçe's deal provided greater security. "I am not 18 any more and I don't think clubs need a trial before they sign me," Beschastnykh said, referring to his time at Bolton.

Bosman deal
The former SV Werder Bremen and Real Racing Club Santander striker had failed to agree terms for a new contract with Spartak and joins Fenerbahçe under the Bosman ruling, although the two clubs are negotiating a compensation fee.

High hopes
Beschastnykh, scorer of 26 goals in 69 games for Russia, said: "I have plans for Fenerbahçe - I want to win the Turkish league and do well in the [UEFA] Champions League next season. I hope everything works out for me." Fenerbahçe sit fourth in the Super League, six points behind leaders Besiktas JK.

Second time round
Beschastnykh rose to prominence with Spartak and rejoined the club after his spells in Germany and Spain.
