Article body
Jérôme Bonnissel today completed a loan move from FC Girondins de Bordeaux to Rangers FC.
McLeish impressed
The five-times capped French international put pen to paper at Ibrox after impressing manager Alex McLeish during a week on trial at Rangers' winter training camp in Dubai earlier this month. Bonnissel, 29, played a practice match against 1. Bundesliga side FC Energie Cottbus and despite being a little rusty after a three-month injury lay-off he did enough to earn a contract until the end of the season.
Purchase option
Rangers also hold an option to sign the player on a two-year deal once the loan period ends. The former Montpellier Hérault SC and RC Deportivo La Coruña defender chose Rangers ahead of several options in the English Premiership after the way he was treated during the trial spell.
UEFA Champions League ambition
He admitted: "There have been offers in the pipeline, but I believe Rangers are one of the biggest clubs in Europe and I'd love to be with them in the [UEFA] Champions League. I know I have to prove myself all over again, but that's a challenge I'm ready for." Bonnissel could feature for league leaders Rangers on Wednesday night in the Scottish Premier League match against Hibernian FC.
