Yugoslavia has lost one of its favourite footballing sons after Miloš Milutinovic died in Belgrade.

Yugoslavia has lost one of its favourite footballing sons after the prolific former striker and coach Miloš Milutinovic died yesterday in Belgrade aged 70 after a long illness.

Bayern move
After impressing during a short stay with his first club, FK Bor, in 1951, Milutinovic moved to FK Partizan where he struck a highly commendable 183 goals in 192 matches. The forward moved on to OFK Beograd in 1958 but spent just six months at the club before being tempted to the 1. Bundesliga by German giants FC Bayern München.

International coach
A success in Bavaria, Milutinovic enjoyed a short spell in French football before finishing a distinguished playing career back at OFK. He was destined to become a coach and took control of the Yugoslavian national team, for whom he scored 14 goals in 33 appearances, between 1984 and 1986. At club level, Milutinovic coached Partizan - leading them to the title in 1983 - FK Velez in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Turkish side Besiktas JK and CD Guadalajara in Mexico.

Esteemed brother

Miloš is the brother of Bora Milutinovic, the man who has led five different national sides during the final round of a FIFA World Cup, the last being China in Japan/Korea last year.
