Keegan delight as Fowler signs

Robbie Fowler has finally completed his protracted €9m move to Kevin Keegan's Manchester City FC.

Leeds statement
Fowler agreed personal terms after undergoing a successful medical, Leeds announced in a statement to the London stock exchange. "The transfer was completed today for an agreed fee of £3m cash [€4.5m] with further payments of up to £3m [€4.5m] based on first-team appearances," the statement read.

Three-and-a-half year contract
The 27-year-old Fowler agreed a three-and-a-half year contract after giving the go-ahead to City manager Kevin Keegan on Wednesday. Fowler had been widely expected to move to City earlier this month in a €10.6m deal only to pull out at the last minute after passing a medical.

Anelka partner
But Fowler changed his mind again this week after Keegan travelled up to his home on Tuesday and made it clear that City were desperate to sign him as a strike partner for Frenchman Nicolas Anelka.

'You'll get goals'

I just said to him, 'Don't be under any illusions, we desperately want you at our club, we think you're the right kind of player with Nicolas Anelka'

Debut approaches
Fowler's progress at Leeds was badly affected by injury and he underwent hip surgery in the close season. He returned to action in December but was mainly been confined to the substitutes' bench. In all, he scored 14 goals in 24 Premiership starts for Leeds. Fowler is expected to make his debut against West Bromwich Albion FC on Saturday.
