Serie A strugglers Torino Calcio have announced the loan signing of Argentinian midfield player Carlos Marinelli on loan from English Premiership club Middlesbrough FC.

Six-month loan
Torino, second bottom of Serie A, said Marinelli, who has an Italian passport, has agreed a six-month loan deal which will keep him with the Turin side until the end of the season. Marinelli joined Middlesbrough from CA Boca Juniors for €2.3m as a 17-year-old in October 1999 when he was described by then manager Bryan Robson as the "new Maradona" but he did not break into the first team until the start of last season.

Sunday arrival
The 20-year-old has found it hard to win a place in Steve McClaren's side this season but is likely to be given a prominent role at Torino who have been lacking a player to operate in Marinelli's favoured role behind the strikers. Torino said Marinelli would arrive in Italy on Sunday and would therefore not be ready to make his debut in Sunday night's game against Internazionale FC.
