Home subsidence
Club president María Teresa Rivero announced the decision at a press conference on Monday morning, less than 24 hours after Rayo suffered a third straight home reverse, 1-0 against Real Valladolid.
Troubled times
"We had three matches against teams who are at the same level as us, and we were hoping to get something from them," Rivero said. "But we have lost them all, and are now in a very difficult position."
Relegation form
Óscar's early strike for Valladolid was enough to condemn Rayo, who are based in the Vallecas district of Madrid, to a fourth consecutive league defeat, including the home losses to RCD Mallorca last week and Sevilla FC. Rayo now lie third bottom of the Primera División.
Summer appointment
Vázquez, 48, joined Rayo last July from relegated UD Las Palmas. He previously coached SD Compostela, Real Oviedo, Mallorca and Real Betis Balompié.
